In collaboration with Steiner AG, I developed an apartment configurator that allows customers to customize and explore their future apartment in a browser-based environment. The application was built in Unreal Engine and pixel-streamed to users’ devices for an immersive experience. Working with the original CAD files from architects, the configurator was populated with material examples and customization options. Users could select and explore these options step by step in a real-time 3D visualization, all while keeping track of costs and selected features. Some of the challenges for this project included ensuring seamless communication between different stakeholders to implement model and texture files to a high visual standard. This involved writing Python scripts for Blender to automate the model and texture file editing process. Another challenge was designing an intuitive user journey, both for the front-end interface and within the Unreal application itself. This allowed for power users to access advanced options while maintaining a simple and accessible experience for the general user. I was in charge of the visual design of the project, including lighting, quality, and performance, ensuring that the final product met high standards. Additionally, I conceptualized and implemented all Unreal Engine logic, primarily using Blueprints. This setup enabled artists to easily add models and textures through simple Unreal interfaces, making the process more accessible for non-technical users.
