The Bathroom Configurator project, developed in collaboration with Richter, consisted of series of applications designed to visualize their products on large touchscreens in their showrooms. These applications aimed to guide new customers by providing an interactive way to explore and combine various product options. To streamline development, I utilized a template project I had previously developed at Hegias. This approach enabled an efficient setup process, allowing easy integration of models and textures while leveraging tailored UX and UI interactions refined in earlier projects. A key challenge was ensuring the applications were intuitive and user-friendly for showroom visitors, many of whom had no prior experience with similar tools. To address this, we conducted multiple rounds of usability testing with people of varying ages on different devices. One significant outcome of these testing rounds was the implementation of an automatic camera system. This adaptive feature intelligently positions the camera to ensure the user always has a clear view of what they are currently editing. The applications offered users the ability to customize a bathroom by changing style lines, individual products, and materials. Users could also freely navigate the virtual space, with controls optimized for both touchscreens and mouse-and-keyboard setups. To maximize accessibility, the applications were made available in two formats: a pixel-streamed version that could run on any device, and a local version optimized for desktop computers.
